How are you feeling today? In balance? Or do you feel that something is missing in your life? The four elements, earth, water, fire and air are present in all of us to some extent, but as life takes its toll, these elements can easily become unbalanced, causing us to feel frustrated, demotivated, blocked, tired or depressed. Fortunately, it’s easy to boost the elements in your life, and to imbibe some of the elemental energy you might be missing. Here are some simple methods for doing just that.
Which Element are You Currently Missing?
If you know your astrological chart, it’s easy to tot up which planets fall in which elements, and to find a total for each element in your chart. If you don’t know your full chart, then for now just think about your Sun sign, and, if you know them, your Moon sign and Ascendant sign.
The fire signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius.
The earth signs are Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn.
The air signs are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius.
The water signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.
Cross out the elements which contains your Sun sign and your Moon and Ascendant sign. Now think for a moment about which of the remaining elements might be lacking in your life.
- If you’re lacking in fire energy right now, you’ll feel tired and lethargic, and not very motivated to get with your plans.
- If you’re lacking earth, you’ll feel unable to focus or unable to stick to one plan without flitting to others. You might also feel emotionally unstable or panicky.
- If you’re lacking in air energy at the moment, you’ll feel uninspired and devoid of good ideas. You might also be struggling with study, and perhaps struggling to make friends.
- If you’re lacking water energy, you’ll feel distant from others and unable to make an emotional connection. Your imagination will be lacking and you’ll find yourself caring less about things than you normally do.
Get Your Elemental Fix
Having zeroed in on one element you feel you need to boost right now, the fun begins! There are numerous ways to bring the magic of the elements into your life, none of which take a great deal of time or money (if any) to accomplish. Make a diary note to pack in as many of that element’s activities as you can in the next week or so, and see if you notice an improvement in your feelings.
- To Boost Air:
Fly a kite; fan yourself; go to a windy spot and feel the power of the air; listen to your breathing; blow bubbles or dandelion clocks; buy a windchime or spinner for your garden and watch it moving; open your windows; fly a flag; declutter to allow the air to move more freely around your home; go hangliding
- To Boost Earth:
Dig in the garden with your bare hands; walk barefoot on the earth; build sandcastles or mud pies; plant something; harvest something; choose some stones or pebbles to create a display; search for fossils; gather some wood; craft with wood; hug a tree; go camping; watch insects at ground level
- To Boost Fire:
Light candles; meditate on a candle flame; hold a BBQ; build a bonfire; sunbathe; burn incense; use a smudge stick to cleanse your home; make patterns with a sparkler; release sky lanterns; use red lamps in your home; watch a fire juggler; visit a volcano; cook outdoors
- To Boost Water:
Swim; watch the ocean or sit by a pond or lake; sit in the rain and let it run down your face; visit a waterfall; take a long bath; splash in puddles; water the garden; mix different colors of water together; drink pure spring water; watch fish in an aquarium; play with waterbombs
You can probably think of many other elemental ideas too. It’s a good idea to try to undertake at least one activity from each element every week, even if you don’t feel that you are lacking anything. Keeping our elements in balance is an important part of overall spiritual balance, and will do wonders for your spirit and sense of peace too.
